In our last blog, we discussed how to discipline children’s mobile phone usage.
In this section, we will discuss how parents can model mobile phone usage for their children and how to plan for it:
1. During breakfast, lunch and dinner, make a plan to completely turn off all electronic gadgets such as TV, mobile, laptop, tab etc. at home and follow it strictly.
2. While spending parents’ free time, if parents decide to participate in home activities with children then everyone should play games like carom, cards, snake and eider which can be played within the four walls with the participation of parents.
3. Initially, in all these games, purposefully chance can be given to children to win by a ratio of 2:1, that means they should be allowed to win twice purposefully and you should win once yourself, which will motivate them to play the game for the sake of winning and will also instill the habit of losing.
4. If parents decide to do outdoor activities while spending time with children, then parents should play games like Cricket, Cycling, Running, Skating, Badminton, Tennis with children so that not only will the children’s free time be utilized properly, but they will stay away from electronic gadgets like Mobile, Television, Laptop, Tab.
5. The most important solution, if any, is reading. When instilling the habit of reading in children, first tell them the things your ancestors told you. Especially while sleeping, tell them that last night’s story was from a book, so that they will be attracted to books. Make sure that the books are within the reach of the children so that the children’s attention is drawn to the books. Parents should take special care that during all this process, the parents themselves shall read the books so that children’s attention is attracted 2 thus children are inclined to imitate their parents.
Thus, keeping children away from mobile phones will not only control their mobile usage, but also keep children away from the harmful effects of mobile phone usage, which will help them develop their listening, reasoning and communication skills in a better way.
